Sending your teen son away for recovery is never an easy choice. To make it easier, we want you to know what a typical day looks like at Lakeside Academy. Here, we’ll break down what kind of activities, care and therapy your teen son will participate in during their time on our campus.
Rise & Shine: Lakeside in the Mornings
Preparing for the Day
Each boy is expected to be ready to start their day at Lakeside by 7:50 a.m. Wake-up time is at 7:00 a.m., and each boy has the option to wake up earlier to exercise, study, shower and dress.
Around 7:00 a.m., the boys head to our dining hall for a continental-style breakfast. They’ll also receive any prescribed medications that are part of their ongoing care.
Morning Programming
Programming begins by 8:00 a.m. Every Monday, we hold a community meeting to start the week off on a positive note. Tuesday through Friday, boys start the day with Character Formation. They learn how to form healthy habits, cope with stressful situations and develop effective communication skills.
At 9:00 a.m., your boy will head to one of two groups. If he’s finishing his education, he’ll head to academic classes. Our accredited school provides an in-class learning environment with at least two licensed teachers and additional tutors for academic support.
If your son isn’t in need of continuing his education, he’ll head over to our Chemical Dependency (CD) group at 9:00 a.m. The boys at Lakeside have access to three types of counselors: Mental Health, Alcohol and Drugs, and Spiritual Care. They meet with these counselors once a week as part of their rehabilitation.
Afternoons at Lakeside
After morning programming, your teen boy will head to the dining hall for lunch, which goes from 11:45 a.m. to 12:05 p.m. If they have academics in the morning, those boys will participate in their CD group in the afternoon until 3:00 p.m. or vice versa.
For boys not in CD five days a week, they’ll have our Vocational Experience for one or two days. They learn hands-on skills like landscaping, gardening, woodworking and maple syruping. When programming finishes, each boy participates in therapeutic recreation from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. daily.
Winding Down: Lakeside Evenings
After recreation time, dinner is served promptly at 4:30 p.m. From 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Spiritual Programming takes place Mondays through Thursdays. Your boy will participate in chapel, bible study and youth group activities. These activities help them focus on their spiritual transformation and development.
Each boy has supervised free time starting at 6:00 p.m. They may use this time to study, exercise, write letters home or play games. Bedtime is at 9:30 p.m. to ensure each boy gets proper rest for the following day.
