Lakeside Academy is a residential Christian recovery center that provides a supportive, safe academic and therapeutic environment for teen boys struggling with behavioral and substance use issues. We enroll adolescent males ages 14 to 18 at our spacious 48-acre campus in Buffalo, Minnesota. Lakeside Academy has earned a strong reputation as one of Minnesota’s most effective faith-based recovery programs for youth. Our combination of clinical therapy, consistent structure, and compassionate mentorship helps boys break free from substance use and rebuild self-worth. Family-Supported Teenage Substance Abuse Treatment
We understand how difficult drug and alcohol abuse can be for both teens and their parents. That is why we incorporate the whole family unit into our treatment, with our parent weekends.
Parent weekends are designed for parents/guardians to reconnect with their son, to meet with counselors and staff, and to network with other parents. We host a formal parent weekend four times each year. During these weekends you can expect educational programming, time to discuss any issues with counselors and staff, and time alone with your son. In warm weather months, we welcome parents to stay onsite in one of our cozy cabins.
Daily Schedule
A typical day at Lakeside Academy is highly structured with emphasis on building consistent behaviors and routines, teaching responsibility and encouraging good decision-making by offering choices and providing positive reinforcement.
Activities
Students at Lakeside Academy can participate in a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities. Some of our students’ favorite activities include fishing, canoeing, swimming, playing football, basketball and pickle ball; they also enjoy weightlifting skateboarding, creating art, gardening, and working in our wood and metal shops.

This prestigious award is presented by Newsweek and Statista Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider. The awards list was announced on August 6, 2025, and can currently be viewed on Newsweek’s website.
The America’s Best Addiction Treatment Centers 2025 list awards the leading 420 addiction treatment centers in the US. The list is based on four data sources:
- National Online Survey – Reputation Score: from medical professionals and managers/administrators working in addiction treatment centers.
- Accreditation Data on addiction treatment centers provided by SAMHSA.
- Care Services Data on additional treatment centers provided by SAMHSA.
- Google Reviews were included as a measure of patient experience
