Raising a teenager is already difficult. However, when your teen suffers from mental health problems, behavioral issues or substance abuse problems, it becomes an even greater challenge.
For many parents, it is normal to ask, “Where can I send my out of control teenager?” Fortunately, there are plenty of out of control teenager programs out there designed to help give your child the opportunity to become kind, capable and successful.
First, it is essential to understand the warning signs that indicate your teen is in trouble. Staying out all night, being physically abusive at home, hiding their phone or internet history, coming home high or drunk and getting arrested are all telltale signs your teen is in crisis. These actions extend well beyond normal teenager behavior, and anyone of them is a good enough reason to contact professionals.
Without proper intervention, your teen will only pursue riskier behaviors, such as harder drugs or more intense crimes. Do not delay helping your teen to the best of your ability.
Pursue Therapy Programs
Many parents will feel the best course of action is to threaten to contact the police if the teen does not straighten out soon. However, this will not encourage your child to get better. If anything, it will only encourage him to be better at hiding the behavior from you.
These types of behavior can also be signs of an underlying mental health condition, so you may also require assistance from a mental health professional. The mental health counselors at Lakeside Academy have experience in identifying which clinical interventions are best, and they can help your entire family get through this difficult time.
Lakeside Academy offers a four-level program that typically takes 12 months. During those first few months our staff is well-versed in out of control behavior and can help your son get back to a calmer attitude. We focus on developing positive emotional, mental and spiritual growth.
This includes individual therapy where your teen will meet one-on-one with a counselor, and your teen can receive extra sessions if a chemical dependence is at play. We also incorporate community therapy and family support into the program, so you will see your teen’s growth over time.
Encourage Better Academics
While your teen goes through various therapy programs, you can rest assured that he will also receive a great formal education. Lakeside Academy lies within the Southwest Metro school system in Minnesota.
We are fully accredited, so your teen can take classes that count toward his high school diploma while he is here. Lakeside Academy even offers college courses, so your son can begin his college education.
Every class we offer is delivered on-site by licensed and experienced teachers. Your son will go through formal classes five days every week, and each class has a student-teacher ratio of 1:10 or less. Your son will get the individualized attention that focuses on problem areas and looks for ways to help him improve in the classroom.
At Lakeside Academy, we place emphasis on project-based assignments. This includes vehicle maintenance, metal fabrication, and woodworking. Your son will learn real-world skills he can take with him for the rest of his life.
Instill Excellent Character
As part of your son’s formal education, our teachers will instill discipline and faith. Through our teachers’ guidance, your son will see different kinds of behaviors and learn how to interact positively with his peers. That way, when your son gets out, he is ready to become an active member of society.
The teachers offer emotional and spiritual support during and after class, so your son will see positive behavior in action at all times while at Lakeside Academy.
If you have any concerns about where your teenage son is heading, then do not hesitate to contact us. We can walk you through every step of our programs, so you can see if it is right for your son and your family as a whole. We strive to improve teens’ lives, so get started today.
